'Bodies littered the ground like broken dolls, stained with blood and dirt. Pitiful moans echoed in the air, desperate pleas for help. The ground was muddy from the rain, and scarred from the passage of curses, deep gashes seared into the earth. Shadowy figures moved silently across the battlefield, giving aid and comfort to their friends, and final peace to their enemies.'

This paragraph is THE scene-setter. Four sentences, and the reader is plunged in a dark aftermath of an even darker, gory battle. It grabs you from your seat and sticks you knee-deep in muck, all the while allowing the reader to imagine for him/herself what the details are.
As said before, I love this sort of scenes, and you manage a fluid, living description without gilding the lily. It's gritty, it's REAL, and it's ultimately GOOD.

Meme 1...
1. Clairy Chrystelle... I hope I spelt that right.
2. Well I know that your mum is in Mexico and your dad is in Cyrpus, though where you were born I'm not sure!
3. November second.
4. Dark brown I think...
5. *Shrugs* Um....
6. One. You have a brother who is... 21?
7. WolfStar, too hot weather and...Snivelly!? Nah I know you enjoy at least some fics with him in them. Getting ragged on by your dad (is that in their job description?)
8. Sirius, reviews and chocolate!
9. I would have thought you have a number of them too. One that sticks in my mind though is dopey reviews from people who have got half a brain and try and tell you your fic isn't right and how they want it!
10. Not that I can think of at least in Cyprus. In Mexico you have doggies.
11. Erm... do you fear anything really muchly?
12. You wish that you didn't have to work so that you could read and write and do what ever you liked instead.
13. Well you like Drew Fuller and Johnny Depp too I'm betting.
14. Same as me, p711.
15. Reviews that are nice and honest, and tell you that you how fantastic your writing is. That always makes a smile appear!

2. Aah, I was born in Germany. Pretty odd mix, I know.
3. You got that one right!
4. Nope, they're green. Odd green that looks different shades from grey to almost black depending on the light, but green.
5. *laughs* shorter than you, that's for sure.
6. Yes!
7. Haha, you got those right. As for the dad-thing, I guess it's like a requisite for employment.
8. Yum, yum and yum!
9. Well, that was pretty straightforward.
10. None here, which is pretty sad... *brightens up* I'll go get one!
11. *shrugs* not really, no...
12. *bursts out laughing* Yes, that's right!
13. I'd be brain dead, not to mention blind if I didn't! But I like Bruce Willis too- those cynical expressions of his make my day. And Russell Crowe. One word: Gladiator.
14. *brightly* Nope. Pages 710 to the end of OotP make me angry and frustrated. Try "Empty Frames" I actually sniffled there a bit.
15. That's right! Reviews rule, right there next to snowboarding... gots to get myself a snowboard.

Empty Frames is another I have recced since I first read it. Which was pretty much as soon as it came out. That made me cry too.
I am going to do meme 2 now... It's something new I came up with and I shall get it sorted out, it's not finished yet but I shall give you a nibble. Tell me what you think, kay? It's not the sort of thing I usually write. It's rather rough at the mo too but I'm hoping it's okay for you to see.
The room was musty, it was a flat above a parade of shops in Leeds. Muggle shops if you must know, just to complicate things.
Lily Evans being a witch wasn't able to use her magic in front of muggles and this meant that her little flat, with it's kitchenonette and it's paper thin walls, had to look the part of normal Muggleness that people in these parts would expect.
On the wall of the sitting room was an old poster of Donny Osmond that had several suspisious burn marks and little drawn on horns and a moustashe. Her two seater settee, was one that she'd taken from her parents house when they died, as that of a mismatched armchair that had little patches worn away, and others sown up as neatly as possible, that had been her father's favourite seat.
She had a one grimy window in her fron troom, and that was where we find Remus and Peter, the window open, both blowing cigerette smoke out into the night sky, whilst they both perched uncomfortably on the sill laughing over something, someone on the wireless had spoken about.
Lily was splayed across her sofa, one hand on her stomach, and the other toying with the stem of her glass.
James was sat on the floor, head resting on her knees as Sirius occupied the armchair. There had been a brief fight over it, which involved much pushing, shoving and name calling but Lily threatened with hexes and that sorted them out pretty quickly. Just because she was supposed to use magic convertly in the Muggle world, it didn't mean her threats were empty, as all four men knew all too well.
Right... *Smiles* Hope it's not too bad!

Where d'you think I got the rec from? Whenever I'm in the need for something good to read, I go to see what you've recced... See, I trust your good taste!
Now to the cookie! *gobbles up*
Hey, no Harry? *raises eyebrows* That has got to be a first. *grins shrewdly* Pre-Harry, maybe? *double take* Remus and Peter are... no way. Don't do that, Remus! It makes me want one... Peter, you go right ahead and carry on, that way you might snuff it sooner, with any luck...
Sorry, got a little carried away there.
The setting of the scene is something I have rarely encountered in the fandom, and it's rather... depressing and a bit desolate. Which is quite probably, what you wanted to achieve. It shows the Marauders in a way that is also rarely seen anywhere-- just *being*, nothing special, no action, no wisecracks. Which is what makes me like this snippet. If I didn't know better, it could be a wizarding photograph.
If I could hazard a guess, it's shortly after Lily's parents were killed, probably before she marries James, and the loveable trio plus rat helped her move in and are just being there for her as she's most likely depressed as hell, and needs to be protected from Voldiewarts...?
What I didn't like: aarrgh! Typos! Eeee! *cringe* *blasts typos away with spellcheck charm* Die, die! ^_^
P.S. Who in the nine circles of hell is Donnie Osmond???
Here, have some more licorice! And get writing more, you!

I have good taste? But of course, why did I even ask? Your fic is on the list after all. Good fics can be hard to find but most of the real gems are pretty well known.
Tis Pre-Harry... I know it is a first. Love Harry too much... Anyway! This scene just came into my head, I could see every crack in the wall, cigerette smoke floating through the window...
I didn't want to alienate Peter you see, by having him smoking on his own. The Marauders trusted him with their lives and he couldn't have been just a tag along all the time. Remus was the obvious choice to have smoking with him, as Sirius would naturally be near James, and James near Lily.
Plus I can just imagine Remus sitting on the steps on 12 Grimmauld place with a fag in his hand contemplating the neighbourhood.
And no you may not have one. It is expressly forbidden. *Raises brow* Don't you dare missy!
I did want to achieve that depressing, desolate atmosphere, you're right. It's nice to be orginal too.
I do have more... I shall type it up and let you have a look. I'm glad you like it so far.
Hmm well you're just about right in the time frame. She has just moved in (grudgingly) and it is just before she marries James.
Typos? I know, I know. I'm on computer with no Word. Which doesn't excuse my crap grammer or spelling but oh well!
You better be kidding with the Donny Osmond thing. He's in the right time, late-ish 70's, which was why I used him. It was either him or David Cassidy in that time. Or so my mother tells me at least.
Mmmm *dies again* licorice.

Oy, you're doing the eyebrow thing again. No. Fair. *raises brow too* see, you're not the only one who can do it... ^_^
Only joking. I can also picture Remus smoking on the front steps of 12GP... Poor thing.
Gimme more! Pwease. See I'm asking nicely and all.
About this Osmond bloke: I am not all *that* old, you know... Although I remember Billy Idol as being from that same time frame. Rebel Yell, yaow. *laughs*
If you keep dying, how can I get more cookies? *revives with more licorice* Yeah, that might work...
I gots fanart! 'S right there in the next post! Go look! *bounces manically*
*deflates a bit* And someone stole my mushrooms. In revenge, I am currently immortalising them in literature. That'll serve them right.

I'll send it to you. Then you can correct all my stupid spellings and grammer mistakes. I've finished the whole thing now so it should satisfy you somewhat.
Mind you, I'm not sure I like it lots.
I'm not calling you old, though I have no idea who Rebel Yell is. Billy Idol? Er... Yeah!
*Is revived by licorice* Shall e-mail you cookie!
I certainly did see your fanart! Bad thing about it: it doesn't show Sirius' eyes! Meanie! You are very lucky to have fanart! That's how popular you are, I'm proud of you!
I'm not getting the bit about the mushrooms but hey ho...!
From:

*laughs* Ok, now I feel ancient. Well, Billy Idol is/was rather popular in the late 70's and 80's, and he was the epitome of rebelness-- spiky hair, motorbike, hard rock music, that sort of thing. Rebel Yell is one of his songs. I think, but I'm not too sure, that he introduced the whole punk rock concept and it was taken over by The Cure and U2 and such. Meh, never mind...
You do that!
I'm still over the moon about it, mind, so I can't find much of anything wrong with it, but I agree on the eyes thing.
So now I feel like it's Christmas all over!
The mushrooms bit: We're all mushroom nuts over here, rather like a bunch of overgrown hobbits, really. And right now, in Cyprus it's mushroom season, which means just about everyone is looking just about everywhere for wild mushrooms.
We had 33 wild mushrooms growing in the garden of our weekend house, of the kind that grow about two hands wide- but they were still on the smallish side, so we left them to grow and didn't cut them... and somebody just thought it would be fun and steal them all. There's not one left!
The funniest part though, was everyone's outraged reaction to the theft. It was expected that I would go on an explosive rant-- but my gran? Auntie Dr.-from-hell? Her hubby? I've never laughed so hard and been so frustrated at the same time. Not to mention the sheer amount of phone calls that stemmed from this whole thing. Apparently it is quite the event.
So I became inspired and started writing a parody of it all, although there's little to parody, to tell you the truth. The family Addams is hilarious on its own right.
I entitled it: The Gruesome Death of the Mushroom Thief or An Eye For a Spore- A (Somewhat) True Story. I'll let you read that when it's done, if you like.
